I believe that finding the right therapist is essential to making positive change in your life. When life presents you with challenges and you need guidance from a professional, it’s important to trust the person you are working with. I take a collaborative approach to therapy, and focus on establishing a healthy therapeutic rapport with my clients so that we can work together to affect change in their lives. It’s important for you to recognize that you are not alone in your experiences, and with the right tools and expertise, you too can take ownership and transform your life.
I work primarily from a cognitive behavioural therapy model, which rests on the premise that one’s thoughts, emotions, behaviours, physical reactions, and environment all interact to affect a person’s mental state and functioning. For example, when an event happens, our thoughts shape the meaning we attach to that event. Those thoughts influence the emotions we experience, as well as the behaviours we choose (or choose not) to engage in. Thoughts and beliefs can also have an effect on our physical reactions, and all of this takes place in the environment in which we exist. Cognitive behavioural therapists believe if you can make even small positive change in one of these areas, it can lead to positive changes in other areas.
I provide therapeutic support to clients around a variety of issues, such as: Depression, anxiety, issues with self esteem and self-worth, anger, addiction, workplace conflict, relationship issues, communication and boundary setting, how to develop and maintain healthy relationships, separation and divorce, and grief and loss.
